Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY offers ample portability & titles for gaming buffs

Sony Ericsson announced PLAY for RM100K, a gaming tournament held in conjunction with the release of the much anticipated Xperia PLAY in Malaysia, the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone recently. The gaming tourney launch took place at the Sepang circuit. 

 

The game changing Xperia PLAY is the latest in Sony Ericsson’s range of Android-based Xperia smartphones. Combining PlayStation quality gaming experience with Gingerbread 2.3, the latest version of Google’s Android platform, the Xperia PLAY delivers the smartphone functionality that the most serious power users could need, teamed with the immersive gaming experience that any gamer would want. 

 

The Xperia PLAY launches with games from the industry’s biggest content providers including Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), Gameloft, Electronics Arts and Glu Mobile. The range of games available to download at launch is a combination of original PS titles, well known 3D and innovative massively multi-player online titles (MMO) that take the full advantage of the graphical capabilities and controls of Xperia PLAY as well as popular casual games all optimized for the unique game pad. 

 

Exemplary features of the Xperia PLAY include a 5 megapixel camera, a brilliant 4” multi-touch screen and quick access to your favorite social networking sites. But, the main feature of the smartphone is the slide out game pad which consists a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation® icons: circle, cross, square and triangle. Internally, the Xperia PLAY is optimized by a 1Ghz CPU and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor for smooth 60fps play-back 3D mobile gaming and web browsing, with minimal power consumption.  

 

Sony Ericsson is launching a program to support and find new upcoming innovative developers called “Stand out from the crowd”, which enables game developers to become part of the Xperia PLAY story and get their games the profile they need. 

 

Gaming highlights for the Xperia PLAY include: Assassins Creed Altair’s Chronicles HD, Need for Speed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Gun Bros, Galaxy on Fire 2, Guns ‘n’ Glory, Worms, Zenonia 2, Backstab, N.O.V.A.2 and Hockey Nations. Among the new titles recently announced for the Xperia PLAY are Minecraft and Asphalt 6, the latest installment of one of the leading and top-selling racing games. The games are downloadable via the “Xperia PLAY launcher”, an application that is activated by sliding open the gamepad.  

 

There is also a range of PS original games available at launch. These comprise a pre-install of the PS One classic Crash Bandicoot and a further 5 PS original games available to download via the PS Pocket application in Xperia PLAY such as; Cool Boarders 2, MediEvil, Syphon Filter, Rally Cross and Wild Arms.  

 

The Xperia PLAY is now available in Malaysia and comes in two colors, Black and White. The phone also comes bundled with a matching color Multimedia Dock DK300 and pre-loaded games like, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Madden NFL 11, FIFA 10, The Sims 3, Crash Bandicoot and Star Battalion.
