Volkswagen Group Malaysia yesterday did a nationwide introduction of the Completely Built-Up (CBU) Polo Sedan at an extraordinary venue located in the picturesque northern island of Langkawi. The Polo sedan is manufactured in India for distribution to countries like South Africa, China, Russia and Malaysia.
The Polo sedan shares limited similarities to the CBU Polo 1.2 TSI hatchback as it now has a larger engine and lots of prevalent exterior motifs. The new compact sedan proves that Volkswagen is working towards changing certain perceptions about compacts.

At a glance, the Polo sedan shares rather similar outlook with the Volkswagen Jetta 1.4TSI, amidst shorter wheelbase and tracks: front and rear. Across all VW product line-up, the design philosophy held steadfast to the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer's DNA. The Polo sedan's front fascia gets an enlarged VW insignia, chrome finish grille and air dam, and height adjustable halogen headlights with chrome-accented foglights

From the side, the sedan shows off a straight-forward shoulder line which runs from the headlight to rearlight, and another at the bottom that connects the front and rear wheel arches. At the rear, a chrome finish truck lid is combined to the bumper. In addition, green-tinted heat absorbing glass is fitted as standard on the newest VW compact sedan. Completing the Polo sedan's overall impression is the 15-inch wheels and 185/60 R15 tyres.

The continental style of the vehicle comes with an interior chrome package (chrome surrounds for light switches, AC vents, steering wheel accent, handbrake lever knob and gearshift), instrument cluster with tachometer, speedometer, trip odometer and digital clock, genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearshift knob, handbrake lever and gearshift boot. Additionally, the Polo sedan offers with all four one-touch powered windows, height adjustable driver and passenger seat, ‘Metric’ fabric seat upholstery, multi-function display, power door locks, power steering, radio with CD-MP3/WMA player and 4 speakers and rear doors with ample storage compartments.

In the engine department, the Polo sedan doesn't include the TSI/DSG combination, instead it has a 1.6-litre 16-Valve Multi Point Injection (MPI) petrol powerplant and is mated to a regular 6-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic shifters. Power output, therefore, isn't as impressive as the TSI/DSG-equipped Volkswagen cars. The 1.6l powertrain outputs 105PS and 153Nm of torque, while top speed reaches an adequate 183 km/h. In terms of fuel consumption, the Polo sedan takes up a low 6.5 litres/100km; rather exemplary efficiency in the compact class category.

Safety features are pertinent all around, with 4 airbags, 3-point safety belts, Anti-theft immobilizer, Height-adjustable headrests, High mounted third brake light and Pinch-guard safety for all 4 powered windows. While. core active safety equipment listings are the ABS and EBD.

“The new Polo Sedan does not only fulfill the exemplary standards of modern automotive engineering but with its timeless design, a level has been reached that is unprecedented in the Malaysian market. The active and passive safety, efficient technologies and the high quality of Deutscher (German) engineering are groundbreaking for this segment in Malaysia,” Ricky Tay, Managing Director Volkswagen Group Malaysia, explained.
He added, “The new Sedan extends Volkswagen’s range of vehicles and builds a bridge from our bestsellers in Malaysia, the Golf and the Polo, to the small family car segment. The Polo Sedan complies with the global quality standards of Volkswagen in every respect, while being very attractive in terms of price.”

Offered in 6 body colors: Candy White, Flash Red, Terra Beige, Shadow Blue, Reflex Silver, and Deep Black, the Volkswagen Polo sedan retails for RM99,888, without insurance and other pertaining charges, with a 5-year warranty.
